Browse the good times - Kingfisher plans internet service on planes
Suno Suno Suno, gaaonwalon suno, ab desi plane pe milega internet, kyaaa…. ? are baba internet !!
‘Kingfisher - Fly the good times’ is planning to provide internet service on board their long haul routes. In partnership with SITA and Airbus, OnAir is the company that kingfisher has chosen for providing this service. The service will include internet browsing, internet, email, messaging, and even phone calls.
Initially the service will be installed on 5 A330s and in next phase on 5 additional A340s, all for their long haul passengers on routes to Europe and Asia and may be to US too. The internet service will be thru Satellite (of course) specifically Inmarsat’s service SwiftBroadband.
Fees will be based on data download (each image you download on net you pay for it) for internet, per instance for other services and mobile phone calls cost will be charged at international roaming rates being billed by respective phone carriers (what does kingfisher get from this, who knows?).
Hitesh Patel, executive vice president, Kingfisher Airlines, has said, “We pride ourselves on our high levels of service, including state-of-the-art inflight entertainment and Live TV at every seat. Being the first, not just in India but also in the world, to offer our guests all of OnAir’s communications services, is truly a great opportunity.”
Okayyy, I understand that they want to provide the best services for their consumers. Sometimes I also miss internet when I travel to and from from India and US, but again did they do any research before choosing to make this decision ? On my this trip to India, I read same survey somewhere in a newspaper, in which passengers and managers were asked if they would like to have internet and phone services on planes. Except for CEOs everyone else responded NO, do you know why ? because they did not want to be bothered with work while on plane AND they did not want to listen to other people on phone shouting at 30,000+ feet in air. I mean it makes a point, would you want to hear next seat bhabhiji complain to her sasuji that why did she let go of cleaning lady early today, so what if she was not at home
. Also managers and employees needed this time to relax so that they could be fresh and ready for the meeting for which they were travelling in first place, and not exhausted on the plane itself, they needed this time to unwind. I wish I wish these companies would do some surveys before making such decisions.
