Asok of Dilbert : India’s first web2.0 matrimonial site - SimplyMarry, just kidding !!
I was reading this news yesterday somewhere (probably on some other blog, actually on IndiaPRWire), that SimplyMarry has claimed themselves the 1st Web 2.0 company in India, what a joke !! Just because they use tools like AJAX, JSP and XML and oh yeah, the profiles on their website gets updated in real time (really, what was before ?), they have claimed themselves to be the first of the web2.0 companies in India.
Speaking at the launch of the Web 2.0 SimplyMarry.com, Mr. R. Sundar, President, Times Business Solutions remarked, “Simple Match Making is the Mantra of the Day. SimplyMarry.com is all that its name stands for, simple, uncomplicated, and designed to ensure that your soulmate finds you; the Simple Registration Web 2.0 technology, is highly intuitive and provides instant updates and ideal matches in real time.” Yup, Simply web2.0 , they can claim anything Simply, because they are Simple and their site is SimplyMarry, isnt that Simple enough, may be they should name themselves Simplywebsite ?
I mean come on, come on, come on, have they checked the definition of Web 2.0 in wikipedia ? Here it is ::
The phrase Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. The term became popular following the first O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004,[1] and has since become widely adopted.
Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to Web technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use the web as a platform. According to Tim O’Reilly, “Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform.”[2]
Some technology experts, notably Tim Berners-Lee, have questioned whether one can use the term in a meaningful way, since many of the technology components of “Web 2.0″ have existed since the early days of the Web.
Okay so this was as of yesterday, today, I was reading my local newspaper and being Sunday, the cartoon strip was my favorite page, and I found the DILBERT cartoon, which by luck did a story on WEB2.0, I could not resist myself and went to their website Dilbert.com and found that they had the cartoon up today, for everyone’s pleasure here it is :

I guess the SimplyMarry guys sit in a lot of above meetings like Asok on Dilbert and know how to confuse their management to get bonuses and promotion in their company. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the cartoon above.
